About Extempore 0055

ex - tem - po - re [ik-stem-puh-ree] on the spur of the moment; without premeditation or preparation; offhand (dictionary.com).

The name Extempore 55 was chosen for a variety of reasons. The adverb "extempore" means that the action was done "on the spur of the moment; without premeditation or preparation" which describes my creative process - I think of ideas for a project impromptu and then later sit down and refine the design and details. A year ago, my friend and I created a series of spontaneous art projects and titled them "Extempore" followed by a number, so it was only appropriate to end this most recent artistic endeavor with a number. I chose the number fifty-five as a reference to the song "Schfifty-Five" by Group X because it is random, yet very creative in its own sense.

About the Layout

This layout was created on Sunday, December 9, 2007. The main image was created by me in Adobe Photoshop CS. The miniature cityscape was drawn using a Wacom Graphire tablet and animated in JASC Animation Shop 3. The entire layout was coded in EditPad Lite and tested in Mozilla Firefox.

For this layout, I was going for a look that was very simple and easy to navigate, yet represented my personality in an artistic form to give the portfolio a more personal feel. I drew a doodle in the top and turned it into an animation to show that while I can do serious projects and presentations, I still try to keep my creative mind young and whimsical.
